Archiving & Digital Preservation
Archiving & Digital Preservation
Ensuring perpetual, free access to NJPST research even if the journal website is unavailable.
1. Commitment
NJPST is committed to long-term preservation of the version of record. We use multiple, geographically distributed preservation services so that published articles remain accessible and citable permanently, with their DOIs resolving even if the journal platform changes.
2. Preservation Services
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)  enabled via OJS. All published issues are automatically deposited. Status: active from Vol. 20 No. 1 (2025) onwards; back-issue deposit in progress.
- LOCKSS  Lotsof Copies Keep Stuff Safe. NJPST exposes a LOCKSS manifest at /gateway/lockss for libraries running LOCKSS boxes. If enabled, the manifest lists every issue.
- CLOCKSS  Triggered archive; will be enabled upon DOAJ acceptance and activation confirmation.
- Zenodo  DOI registration deposits store a copy of metadata + PDF (see Open Access Policy).
3. How It Works (OJS)
In OJS: Settings → Distribution → Archiving → PKP PN is On. Each published issue’s galleys and metadata are bagged and transferred to the PN. The daemon verifies fixity and replicates across nodes. The journal’s OAI-PMH endpoint (/oai) also exposes metadata for harvesters (e.g., AJOL, DOAJ, BASE).
4. Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit the accepted manuscript or published PDF in institutional repositories immediately (see Open Access Policy). This provides additional decentralised preservation.
5. Perpetual Access Guarantee
Even if NJPST ceases publication or migrates platform, the PKP PN and CLOCKSS copies remain accessible. DOIs (Zenodo/Crossref) will continue to resolve via doi.org.
6. Verification
Librarians: visit LOCKSS Manifest and OAI /oai?verb=Identify. If the manifest returns 200 and lists volumes, the journal is being preserved. Status is also shown in OJS PKP PN Plugin → Status.
